Hey there, I’m Crystal.

Wanna know how I became a medical copywriter?

A few things I love —
My family, my kitties, neuroscience, writing, music, reading, camping, nature, meditation, sci-fi, positive psychology, costume dramas, tacos.

Background greatest hits (tl;dr) —
Speech-Language Pathologist (MS CCC-SLP), journalist, editor, luxury retail, BA in English and Communications, musician and songwriter, world traveler, empath

What’s My Story?

Like you, I’ve always been a helper. My mom (a career teacher), likes to say it’s a calling. I think she’s right.

I’ve also always been a writer. Short stories in elementary school led to a BA in English Literature. I was one of those weird kids who actually enjoyed writing all those essays and dissecting classic books.

After graduation, I moved, sight-unseen, to a small Caribbean island to avoid being a “real” adult for a little while longer.

My attempts to avoid adulthood backfired, and I ended up stumbling fortuitously into a series of jobs that paved the path for who I am today. (Don’t worry, I also went to the beach)

While managing a fine art boutique in one of the island’s swanky shopping centers, I struck up a lunchtime conversation with the owner of a local newspaper. She was looking for a head writer and assistant editor.

By the time we finished our taquitos, I had the job.

I dove back into writing and, in the process, developed a love for editing others’ work. It was like a puzzle to solve. I loved fitting the pieces together to make the words really sing.

I also fell in love with doing interviews.

Conducting interviews made me feel like I was given a VIP backstage pass into my subject’s inner worlds. I got to ask questions, dive deep, listen to their hopes, fears, dreams, and thoughts on a wide variety of topics.

And afterward, I got the privilege of weaving hours of recorded freeform conversation into a tapestry of story.

It was magic.

After five years and a lifetime of experiences, I left the island and moved back stateside. I loved living by the ocean but had missed the mountains and being close to my family.

I went back to high-end retail for a bit, but my desire to be of service to others soon led me to pursue a Master’s program in Communication Sciences and Disorders.

I decided to become a speech and language pathologist.

From early on in my MS program, I was fascinated by neuroscience and acquired communication issues in adults and the elderly.

I volunteered at a weekly therapy group for people with aphasia (loss of language due to a stroke) and their families.

It was inspiring.

I witnessed firsthand just how important words are, through helping those who had theirs taken away.

In my work as a medical speech and language pathologist, I developed an even deeper appreciation of the science and the magic of language. And of the vast power of communication.

Copywriting was a natural return to my lifelong love of writing, combined with my drive to help people.

With copywriting, I’m able to draw upon my medical and clinical training and my background in scientific research to both help and inform.

Becoming a healthcare copywriter was the perfect marriage between my love of science and my passion for creativity. I’m so grateful to have found my dream career, and I hope to share my passion with you!

Now that you’ve gotten to know me, I’d love to get to know you!

Tell me what you need, and I’ll show you how a healthcare copywriter like me can help you reach your goals!
